Peak Performance Buoyancy

Glide effortlessly, use less air and be the diver you want to be – gain ultimate buoyancy control with the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty Course!

Course Introduction

Excellent buoyancy control is what defines skilled scuba divers. You’ve seen them underwater. They glide effortlessly, use less air and ascend, descend or hover almost as if by thought. They more easily observe aquatic life without disturbing their surroundings. You can achieve this, too. The PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty course improves the buoyancy skills you learned as a new diver and elevates them to the next level.

PADI (Junior) Open Water Divers or higher, who are at least 10 years old, are eligible to take the Peak Performance Buoyancy course.

Course Overview

What will you learn?

During two scuba dives, you’ll learn how to:

  • Determine the exact weight you need, so you’re not too light or too heavy.
  • Trim your weight system and scuba gear so you’re perfectly balanced in the water.
  • Streamline to save energy, use air more efficiently and move more smoothly through the water.
  • Hover effortlessly in any position – vertical or horizontal.

How can you start learning now?

Visit our dive shop to enroll in the course and get your PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Manual.

By reading the manual and watching the video before class, you’ll be ready to get in the water and start practicing your buoyancy skills when you meet with your PADI Instructor.

What scuba gear will you use?

It’s best to use your own scuba equipment, including a weight system, so that you fine-tune your buoyancy in gear you’ll use on every dive. Your PADI Instructor or local dive center staff can help you find the equipment that is best for you and your diving adventures.

Course Standards

Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty Course

The 1-2 days PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialty Course is designed to enhance your diving experience through knowledge development and skills training – teaching you to precisely weight yourself for optimum control, poise and balance.

Knowledge Development

Instructors have different approaches to teaching buoyancy, but what all of them have in common is that each student must complete the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Manual & DVD prior to beginning the course. Then students will attend a lecture where the insturctor outlines their own individual approach to buoyancy and how to develop the habit.

Confined Water Training

Students will participate in a custom buoyancy clinic in the pool that teaches students skills to help develop proper buoyancy as a habit in their diving regardless of where they are diving

Open Water Dives

The Peak Performance Buoyancy course requires two open water dives to fulfill the course. On those dives, students are required to demonstrate an advanced level of buoyancy control throughout their time in the water. We typically conduct these dives at Dutch Springs, a scuba park in Pennsylvania, on one of our weekend trips throughout the dive season from May through October.

Equipment

Divers simply need their personal dive gear (mask, fins, boots, and snorkel) and basic scuba gear (BC, regulators, dive computer, wetsuit.) Of course, the basic scuba equipment is rentable from Pan Aqua Diving. Students will also need dive gloves which are available for purchase.

Prerequisites

Divers must be PADI Open Water certified and be at least 10 years of age.

Your Next Adventure

The greatest benefit of improved buoyancy is the ability to stay still to take pictures so the PADI Digital Underwater Photographer and Videographer Courses is a natural progression from PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy
